Umunya cerita legenda itu berkaitan dengan asal usul suatu daerah, misal legenda kota surabaya, legeda danau toba, dan legenda gunung Tangkuban Perahu. Sementara mitos adalah cerita rakyat yang disampaikan dari generasi ke generasi berikutnya dan biasanya berkeenaan dengan cerita dewa-dewa. Simply, if a story consists of ORIENTATION, COMPLICATION, and RESOLUTION, surely the story is a narrative text. Now how are those 3 elements applied in a story of narrative text? Let’s see the following example of narrative text in a legend story! The Legend of Sura and Baya Legenda ikan Sura dan dan Buaya sebagai contoh narrative text bahasa Inggris A long time ago, there were two animals, Sura and Baya. Sura was the name of a shark and Baya was a crocodile. They lived in a sea. Once Sura and Baya were looking for some food. Suddenly, Baya saw a goat. “Yummy, this is my lunch,” said Baya. “No way! This is my lunch. You are greedy” said Sura. Then they fought for the goat. After several hours, they were very tired. Feeling tired of fighting, they lived in the different places. Sura lived in the water and Baya lived in the land. The border was the beach, so they would never fight again. One day, Sura went to the land and looked for some food in the river. He was very hungry and there was not much food in the sea. Baya was very angry when he knew that Sura broke the promise. They fought again. They both hit each other. Sura bit Baya’s tail. Baya did the same thing to Sura. He bit Sura very hard. Sura finally gave up and went back to the sea. Baya was happy. Arti Cerita the Legend of Sura and Baya Dahulu sekali, ada dua binatang, yaitu Sura dan Baya. Sura adalah nama seekor hiu dan Baya adalah seekor buaya. Mereka tinggal di sebuah laut. Suatu ketika Sura Baya dan sedang mencari makanan. Tiba-tiba, Baya melihat seekor kambing. “Yummy, ini adalah makan siangku,” kata Baya. “Tidak! Ini adalah jatah makan siangku. Kamu serakah” kata Sura. Kemudian mereka berebut untuk mendapatkan kambing itu. Setelah beberapa jam berkelahai, mereka merasa sangat lelah. Karena merasa lelah bertarung, mereka bersepakan untuk tinggal di tempat yang berbeda. Surah sang ikan hiu hidup di air dan Baya si buaya memilih tinggal di daratan. Pembatasnya adalah pantai. Dengan begitu mereka tidak akan bertengkar lagi. Suatu hari, Sura si ikan hiu pergi ke daratan dan mencari beberapa makanan di sungai. Dia sangat lapar karean tidak banyak lagi makanan di laut. Baya si buaya tentu saja sangat marah ketika tahu bahwa Sura si ikan hiu tidak menepati janjinya. Mereka berkelahi lagi. Mereka berdua saling memukul. Sura menggigit ekor Baya sedangkan Baya melakukan hal yang sama kepada Sura. Ia menggigit sangat keras sampai Sura akhirnya menyerah dan kembali ke laut. Baya si buayapun merasa senang. Generic Structure Cerita The Legend of Sura and Baya Seperti disampaiakan diatas, bahwa semua cerita dalam teks narrative harus memenuhi 3 unsur generic structure. Inilah inti pelajaran narrative text terutama pada skill reading dan writing. Sekarang kita liahat bagaimana 3 unsur structure itu dipakai dalam cerita legenda tentang kota Surabaya diatas 1.
